Rimmel Ava-A-Bit of Jade

I love Rimmel polishes. They have a lovely range of colours at a good mid-range price, and their brushes are the very best in my opinion; flat, not too wide, and with a curved tip that fits perfectly around the cuticles. Because I have very small nails (being a very small person) many of the flat brushes are too wide for my nails and if their tips are cut straight across it can be very difficult to get a nice curve around the cuticle. The Rimmel brush is the perfect size, I can almost cover my pinky nail in one stroke.

Ava-A-Bit of Jade has a dreadful, clumsy name, but it is a gorgeous colour.

Dark teal cream formula, two coats to full coverage. Love it.

Fair warning though, this one stains when you remove it. My nails after removal looked like I had murdered a leprechaun*.

* No leprechauns were harmed in the removal of this polish.

Today's nail: Rimmel Green Grass, and my Christmas polishes

My polish stash got a few additions on Christmas Day.  The Eccentric English Boyfriend gave 14 Year Old Daughter and me these:

Four Miki minis (hehe - Many Miki Minis - try saying that five times fast!). Miki never name their polishes, or even give them numbers, but aren't they lovely? The two oranges are especially appealing.

Another two from EEB:

A brand called Scandal, who I've never heard of before - no prizes for guessing which brand was the inspiration for their bottles! Hot Orange and Lavender Purple (which is less blue and more purple than it appears in the photo).

From 14 Year Old Daughter:

Own brand polishes from a local bargain store The 1 2 3 Dollar Store, no names, numbers 05, 32 and 22.

And from EEB's sister in England:

Rimmel Blue Vogue and Green Grass. I've seen a few Rimmels here in New Zealand, but never these colours. Proof that what we get here is a limited range.

Anyway, awesome bright bright (very nearly neon) green which my camera didn't capture very well.  The bottom picture is closest, but it's still brighter than that.  Nice application, although a little sheer so it took three coats. I disagree with the name though - Green Grass is totally wrong for it.  If I had naming rights I'd call it something cool like 'Alien Blood' or 'Ectoplasm' because that's what it makes me think of!

More hauls, and nail polish bottle constructions

Just a couple of hauls for you. I'm waiting for my big order from the Overall Beauty sale to arrive, and then I'm putting a moratorium on my spending for a while because I'm saving my pennies for a trip to Melbourne within the next couple of months. It's my big reward from the Eccentric English Boyfriend for quitting smoking (nearly two months now by the way - yay me). Initially he was going to buy me expensive shoes once I hit three months smoke free, but then we hit upon the idea of a long weekend trip to Melbourne. My best friend from high school (back in the day) lives there now and I'm super excited about seeing her, and also visiting another high school friend who now has a wee tot. Plus I hear the shopping is awesome! Woo and also hoo! Flights yet to be booked (yay for paying with airmiles), excitement building ...

Anyway back to the hauls. First another parcel from my wonderful UK friend Ewa:

Have any of you ever seen the movie BMX Bandit? If not search it out, just to see a very young Nicole Kidman back in the 80's when her hair was curlier than a trampoline spring.

Rimmel Blue Me Away just happened to be one of the polishes I got in my KMart haul the other, but the double up was my fault because I'd told Eva Rimmel was not commonly available in New Zealand and then I found a great big display of them in KMart. But that's ok because the extra one will find a good home with 13 Year Old Daughter's bestie.

Love My Nails Raspberry Sorbet


O.P.I. Monsooner Or Later

I was so cross when I opened the packet the Monsooner Or Later came in to discover it is a little itty-bitty-teeny-weeny 3.75ml mini. Then I went back to the listing and realised it very clearly listed the size so it was my own silly fault for not reading more carefully (normally I'm so careful to not buy the minis). It's incredibly annoying because the price I paid was far too much for a mini. Lesson (hopefully) learned.

Finally, 10 Year Old Son has been home sick with a cold the last couple of days, and he was obviously a bit bored because I kept finding these on the desk:



Nail polish towers! I love the way the Kit bottle at top right is teetering so precariously. Every now and then I would hear the clink clink bang of polish bottles falling over, none were broken thank goodness. Bless him!

Hi, my name's Selina and I'm addicted to nail polish

You know how they say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem? Well can we, perhaps, just pretend that's the only step? So I admit I'm addicted to buying nail polish, you all pat me on the back for taking such a huge step towards recovery and then we all go back to how we were and I keep buying nail polish? Yeah? Excellent. As you were then.

So here's some more polish that I bought. Back when I had that little problem.



Anna Sui Number 126. Obviously I had to buy it because it was super cheap on TradeMe. And it's pretty.



Lancome Number 297. This one was also super cheap on TradeMe. And it's yellow.



Ahhh, right. Now these weren't super cheap on TradeMe. Although some of them were on special so that's pretty good, yeah? But, you see, what happened was, I was at the mall buying a present for a friend and these polishes just accidentally bought themselves with my credit card. Darndest thing huh? Anyway left to right: Rimmel Deliciously Dark, Blue Me Away and Go Cobalt, Max Factor Ultra Blue and some really cute little nail templates for painting designs on your nails in wave, skull and crossbones, butterfly and pawprint designs.

Also, something I didn't buy. These came from my wonderful friend Ewa who sent me the Bourjois So Laque polishes:


Left to right Maybelline Matte in Matte Rose, Butterfly Collection Number 244 and Delia Glamour Number 5. And at front a Paloma lip gloss.

I've seen the Maybelline Mattes around on a few blogs and been quite keen to try them out because unlike the current mattes from O.P.I. which are just too chalky matte for my liking the Maybelline ones (which were released some time ago) have more of a lustrous satin finish which is quite lovely. All the other items are brands I've never heard of so I'm very excited to try them out.

So there we go. Oh and did I mention that I just ordered a whole heap of polishes from Overall Beauty because they were having a massive sale on BB Couture polishes for their newsletter subscribers?
