I'm loving: Bourjois Mini Eyeshadow Powder No 5

One of my favourite drugstore brands (and therefore, obviously, a brand I can't get here in New Zealand - grumble grumble mutter) is Bourjois. Naturally when we were in England in July I stocked up on a few Bourjois products, and now I'm kicking myself for not getting more. Lots more.

I did get this: 

Mini Bourjois Eyeshadow Powder 05.

Mini Bourjois is Bourjois' range of mini-sized cosmetics; including eye liners and powders, lip glosses and balms, blush, nail enamel and accessories. The eyeshadow powders are packed in 1g / 0.04oz jars and there are 15 colours in the range. Now that I've tried 05 I want the other 14 as well. Sadly I don't think Eccentric English Boyfriend will see my desperate need for these as a vaild excuse for another trip to England.

Eyeshadow Powder 05 is a dusky grey/blue shot through with gold that proved nigh on impossible to capture with my camera, but here are a couple of jar shots:

The first is taken with flash, the second indoors with natural light, but neither of them show the gold reflect particularly well - it's warmer than it appears here.

And some shots of it applied on my upper eyelid and over the top of the eyeliner on my lower eyelid. (The other products used are an unnamed Vital Radiance beige eyeshadow as a base, Smashbox Creme Eyeliner in Picasso lining the upper eyelid, and LA Girl Eyeliner in Navy lining the lower eyelid.)

Because my eyes are heavily hooded the eyes open shot doesn't show much of the eyeshadow, but I've included it because it does show the gold reflect quite nicely.

Really well pigmented, this is a lovely soft eyeshadow powder which applies easily and blends well, and I think it may now be my favourite eyeshadow colour. At least until I find my new favourite eyeshadow!

Bourjois So Laque - Part 2

Here are the last two of my Bourjois So Laque haul. First Cerise noir:




In the bottle I thought this was going to be a deep red, but on my nails it actually leaned more towards brown, and it's gorgeous. If Suzi Says Da! was melted chocolate then this is too, but a lower percentage of cocoa solids (if that makes sense*). There is some red in there, and when I removed it the colour on the cotton wool was definitely red, but I'm quite glad to say it's brown on the nail, and that's all good with me! Of the four this was the only one to require three coats (the others were all two coaters) but again it has a gorgeous gloss on the nail, even if the pictures don't do it justice because applying nail poilsh to my little stubbies is still sucking!

Next, Noir de chine. Great name, great polish:




Black polish is probably the only polish that looks better on stubby nails. And this would have to be the best black ever application wise. It went on like a dream in two coats, and it's so gorgeous and glossy my nails look like polished onyx. This will be my go-to black from now on.

Bourjois So Laque - Part 1

Here are the first two of the Bourjois polishes I received yesterday. First up Bleu violet, an incredibly hard colour to photograph. My camera will only capture it as various shades of midnight blue, which it is in some lights, but in others it is a beautiful vibrant purple. Love, love, love it (in both of its incarnations).




Next Bleu mysterieux:




A beautiful dramatic dark dark blue-black, reminiscent of Eyeko's Vamp Polish, but better application requiring only two coats. I did find I needed to do some clean up on this one but that could be because I'm still adjusting to my little stubby nails.

I am impressed so far, the colours are so rich and thickly pigmented, requiring only two coats, and they dry quickly to a beautiful glossy finish - the bottle says 'with vinyl' and they do look like vinyl on my nails. My only small quibble would be with the brush. Like O.P.I. Bourjois have gone for a flat, wide brush. The Bourjois brush is slightly wider than the O.P.I. brush, and is actually too wide for my pinky nail (I do have teeny tiny little nails) so a little bit of jiggling around is required to get the application right on my smaller nails. However that's a very minor quibble, and I can't wait to see the final two on.

Bourjois So Laque and the joys of social networking

Social networking is incredible. Through Facebook I befriended a fellow Sealyham Terrier owner in London who it turns out is also a fellow beauty junky, and look what she sent me:



Four Bourjois So Laque polishes - yippee! Left to right: Noir de chine, Cerise noir, Bleu mysterieux and Bleu violet. I've got Bleu violet on right now and it is absolutely gorgeous. And if my camera hadn't decided that anything purple toned must actually be blue I'd have photos of it for you. I think my camera is colour blind.
